Maharashtra: 23 policemen in Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar test positive | Mumbai News – Times of India


MUMBAI: The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has been harsh on the uniformed force with 23 cops in the Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar regions in Maharashtra testing positive for the virus.
The policemen, including six officers from Zones 2 and 3 of the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate, are being treated at various Covid care centres.
Many of them have been vaccinated.
The police force has been in the forefront in the fight against the virus.
Since October last year, around 68 officers and 379 constables in the MBVV have tested positive.
Two officers and six constables have died of Covid.
Cases are on the rise in both Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar.
Maharashtra BJP vice-president Prasad Lad has written to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to set up a jumbo Covid care centre in the Vasai-Virar region.
Till Thursday evening, Vasai-Virar had only four ICU beds and seven in Mira-Bhayander.
A Covid care centre with 165 oxygen beds has come up in Mira-Bhayander.
