Maharashtra: Holi celebrations banned in Palghar district amid Covid-19 surge | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Palghar district administration has banned Holi celebrations in public places, hotels and resorts.
The festival is to be celebrated between March 28 (Holika Dahan) and March 29 (Holi). Public places like beaches and roads are crowded during the celebrations. Hotels and resorts are also booked for private parties during Holi.
The district, including rural areas, has seen a surge in cases. Student hostels in the district have been shut from today due to the spread of the virus among students.
Those violating the orders will be booked under the Disaster Management Act, Maharashtra Covid-19 Regulations and section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC.
Cases in the district stood at 47,666 on Monday with 1,159 active cases.
