MUMBAI: A second-year commerce student died after he came under the front wheels of a speeding bus on S V Road in Daulat Nagar in Mumbai’s Borivali (East) on Friday.
The deceased — identified as Aman Yadav (19) — was run over by the bus after he fell from his motorcycle after crashing into a car door that the motorist opened all of a sudden.
Yadav was killed hardly 10 minutes after he left his Dahisar home after handing over Rs 200 that day’s pay he earned from a work.
Kasturba Marg police said Yadav’s parents were unaware of where he was headed.
Police are searching for the motorist who was booked for negligence.
The final rites were carried out on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 6.18pm when Yadav was riding on SV Road towards Borivali railway station.
The entire mishap was captured in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) at Daulat Nagar.
According to the CCTV grab, the motorist opened the door without watching behind to nab a mobile thief.
“The exact reason will be clear only after the motorist is arrested. It is a clear case of negligence that cost the life of the college student who came under the wheels of the speeding bus,” said a police officer.
Yadav’s family condition is very weak and he did odd jobs to support his father’s income who is an auto-rickshaw driver.
Yadav’s parents relocated to Ambawadi locality in Dahisar a few months ago.
He was the only son and the youngest while he has two elder sisters and a mother.
“Yadav’s parents are in a shock and are still unaware where he left for and the purpose. Even the motorcycle does not belong to him. His mother said he returned home at around 5pm and after handing over Rs 200 that he earned for the day’s work went out to have his hair cut and took a bath before leaving home,” Yadav’s neighbour Dinesh Janmehra told TOI.
“An hour later, his father (Manjay) who was supposed to leave for work at night got a call from the police informing him about the mishap. He was good at his studies and did not have any bad habits. Two days ago, he got his resume updated to apply for a job,” Yadav’s neighbour Dinesh Janmehra told TOI.
Police are searching for the motorist who sped away from the spot after the incident.
The team got details of the motorist from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
“The incident occurred when Yadav tried to overtake the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport bus from the left. The driver of the car opened the door and he rammed against the door of the car and came under the wheel of the bus. After sustaining serious injuries, he was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. The team is searching for the motorist of the private car at Ghatkopar,” said Kasturba Marg police senior inspector Namdeo Shinde.
