Mumbai news live: Active COVID cases cross 25,000 mark – The Times of India


A day after Maharashtra reported the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of COVID-19, the state on Monday saw a drop in daily count, recording 24,645 new cases. On Sunday, the state had reported 30,535 cases. While the caseload increased to 25,04,327, the state also reported 58 deaths due to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 53,457. Mumbai city reported 3,262 fresh cases. The country’s financial capital has till now recorded 3,65,937 cases and 11,596 deaths. The active cases count has crossed the 25,000 mark. Meanwhile, in a major political development, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has clarified that there was no question of taking Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s resignation as there was no truth in the allegations made by Param Bir Singh in a letter to Chief Minister. The IPS officer has moved the Supreme Court seeking direction for immediate “unbiased, uninfluenced, impartial and fair” CBI probe into alleged corrupt malpractices.
